Hiking San Diego’s Hidden Coastal Trail

San Diego has popular hikes, but there's a hidden one on coast of Del Mar that might be our favorite of them all.

This trail isn’t on your normal maps, so here’s how to find it:

You’re going to want to type in “Jakes Del Mar” (A local resturant right on the water), then find parking around the resturant. There’s a public beach lot there so no need to worry.

once you park, you’re going to see the beach, side walks around the beach, and train tracks.

Follow the sidewalk to the tracks, if you want a visual detail on how this goes, you can check out our latest YouTube video getting on the trail here.

This hike isn’t for everyone! Make sure to be careful while walking here! Since there’s trains that will come by every so often and the edge of the bluffs can occasionally crumble!

Now that we have the disclaimer out of the way, let’s continue into what makes this trail such a special piece of San Diego, California.

Those purple flowers are just vibrant and this trail makes a great place for some memorable pictures so make sure to have your camera ready. It also is incredibly peaceful because there aren’t a lot of people on it. Many other hikes in San Diego are crowded, but we saw few people on this trail on Sunday.

So if you’re looking for a super chill walk that spans a few miles,

(you can turn back at any point), is mostly flat with a little bit of hill, and is incredibly peaceful, this is the perfect hike for you!
